Bridge Alliance Announces Acquisition of Digital News Publication The Fulcrum

The Fulcrum to Continue Providing Nonpartisan News Coverage of
Social & Political Reform Issues to Strengthen American Democracy

State College, PA (April 20, 2021) — The Bridge Alliance Education Fund today announced that it is assuming ownership and control as publisher of The Fulcrum, a nonpartisan news publication.

The Fulcrum is a digital news organization focused exclusively on efforts to reverse the dysfunction of American democracy. The Fulcrum, which is nonprofit and nonpartisan, shares original stories, news from across the country, and an opinion forum focused on money in politics, redistricting, voting rights, election access, government ethics, civic engagement, and the imbalance of powers.

For the past two years, The Fulcrum was sponsored by Issue One and operated by Publisher & Executive Editor David Meyers and Editor-in-Chief David Hawkings. Under their leadership, The Fulcrum served as a hub for original reporting, profiles, and opinion pieces focusing on efforts to strengthen American democracy.

David Meyers will continue as Executive Editor during the transition as he manages the publication’s editorial staff which will remain with The Fulcrum. With more than two decades of experience as editor, content strategist and project manager, as well as his expertise and knowledge on the issues facing American democracy, Meyers will ensure a seamless transition for The Fulcrum.

“We launched The Fulcrum at a time of intense interest in fixing our country’s political system. Our mission to bring Republicans, Democrats, and independents together to renew and strengthen our democracy remains as important as ever,” said Nick Penniman, Issue One Founder and CEO. “With the Bridge Alliance’s coalition of more than 90 organizations vigorously working to defend our democratic republic, we are pleased that The Fulcrum will be able to continue its important work and reporting.”

The Bridge Alliance Education Fund is proud to build upon the work of Hawkings and Meyers as it moves forward under new leadership.

As publisher of The Fulcrum, The Bridge Alliance Education Fund will provide consulting support to increase reporting, opinion, and input from a diverse group of individuals to enhance marketing opportunities both to and from an audience that reflects the full diversity of America.

“The Bridge Alliance is dedicated to bridging our many divides and healing our democracy.  We are excited to build on The Fulcrum's current readership; to engage and involve Americans of all stripes.” says Debilyn Molineaux, CEO & President of Bridge Alliance. “This will result in a better informed, more connected and highly energized force for change.
